Prologue

The room was quiet except for the sound of her anklets trembling against marble.

She sat at the edge of the bed, clutching her dupatta to her chest, wide eyes shimmering in the dim light.

He stepped closer, loosening his tie, but his gaze never left her. Not hungry. Not cruel. Just… worshipful.

Her voice broke first, soft as a whisper.

“Everyone says the world outside is dangerous… even you. Should I be scared of you too?”

He knelt in front of her, shocking her into stillness. His hand didn’t touch, only hovered, as if even his shadow was too unworthy of her skin.

His voice was low, steady.

“Scared? No, meri jaan. You’re the only place I’ve ever found peace. The only person who makes me kneel without a bullet at my head.”

She lowered her gaze, fingers twisting her dupatta.

“But… I don’t know what you expect of me. I don’t know if I’ll ever be enough…”

He smiled, the kind that carried both darkness and devotion.

“You already are. You were enough the day you held my hand in childhood when no one else dared. You don’t have to give me anything tonight.”

Her lashes fluttered as she looked up at him, uncertain.

“Then… what will you do?”

He reached up, gently removing the veil from her head, not with lust but with reverence, as though unveiling a goddess.

“I will protect you. Cherish you every single day until the moment you surrender on your own. Not a second before.”

Tears welled in her eyes at his words, and she whispered, almost afraid to believe:

“You won’t hurt me?”

His jaw tightened, voice breaking with intensity.

“Hurt you? Jaan, I’d burn the whole world before letting a shadow fall on you. To them, I am a devil. But to you… I am only yours. Your safety. Your sukoon.”

For the first time that night, she smiled. Small, fragile, but real. And when he finally kissed her forehead, not her lips, she knew—

the world may belong to his cruelty,

but she would always belong to his worship.....
